Efficiency in stock: For new series of spindle bearingsThe Millennium Wheel has been turning continuously, day after day, for ten years now on the bank of the Thames in London and has become one of the largest visitor attractions and a modern landmark of the British capital. At the center of the observation wheel: Rolling bearings from FAG which ensure the wheel rotates reliably.
Bearings keep the observation wheel turninghe Schaeffler Group uses modern coating technology in order to optimize the functionality of surfaces in heavily loaded rolling bearings and precision components. In focus are coatings that prevent or reduce corrosion and fretting corrosion, as well as wear, friction, slippage and the passage of current. Offered under the trademarks of Corrotect®, Durotect®, Triondur® and Isotect®, the coatings are applied to the component surfaces in a number of different methods, without a thermo-chemical diffusion occurring between the coating and the base material.
Coatings for lower friction and longer operating lifeThe Schaeffler Group is preparing the expansion of its manufacturing capacity in North America for its multiple award-winning UniAir product, which is the world’s first continuously variable hydraulic valve train system. The UniAir valve train actuator, invented by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and developed and produced under licence by the Schaeffler Group, is a key component of the Fiat Powertrain Technologies MultiAir* system, which made its debut in the middle of 2009 with introduction of the Alfa MiTo 1.4 MultiAir.
Growth through Award-Winning InnovationsThe Schaeffler Group continues to count on the North American market for further successful business development. “North America is the world’s largest auto market and it will undergo strong development impetus as a result of the growing importance of new, energy-efficient drive concepts. This will offer growth opportunities to innovative suppliers,” Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, Schaeffler Group President and CEO, said at the Detroit Motor Show. “This is why we have come to Detroit to present our latest products.”
Success through InnovationTractors and graders operate with high drive power and at high speeds. Reduced fuel consumption and environmental friendliness are crucial requirements for these machines, in addition to absolute operational reliability under all conceivable loads and speeds. Schaeffler Group Industrial has developed new bearing designs for maximum energy efficiency.
High reliability and maximum performance under all operating conditionsFord has designated the Schaeffler Group as its “Supplier of the Year 2009” in the “Powertrain” sector in South America. The award was presented during a supplier event organized by Ford in Sao Bernardo do Campo in Brazil.
Supplier of the Year AwardIt has now been three decades since a pack of sporty Volkswagen Iltis all-terrain vehicles raced on their way to victory during the 1980 Dakar Rally, at the time still a new event. The Iltis (German for the European polecat) had become well-known in Germany because of its use in the German military, and Volkswagen and Audi engineers took advantage of the all-terrain vehicle’s rally start to develop what is today its legendary Quattro drive. And this victorious rally operation also marks a highly successful time for engineers of the Schaeffler Group. The 1980 Dakar Rally is generally regarded as the beginning of the throttle valve bearing, a machine component that the Schaeffler Group has produced millions of and holds several patents for.
Desert Knowhow for Safety and Fuel SavingsMaria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, Owner, Dr. Peter Pleus, President of Schaeffler Group Automotive (present in place of Norbert Indlekofer), Dr. Christoph Löffel, Head of the Ball Screw Drive Product Line as well as the Plant Manager for the Herzogenaurach location, Peter Wirkner, all took part in a ceremony to celebrate the one-millionth ball screw drive for electromechanical steering systems to leave the Schaeffler Group’s fully automated production facility.
Ultimate Precision a Million Times OverThe Schaeffler Group will present the CO2ncept-10% vehicle at the ATZ/MTZ Congress focusing on “Friction Reduction in the Powertrain” to be held on December 9-10 in Esslingen. CO2ncept-10% is an advance development project that was carried out jointly by Porsche and the Schaeffler Group and involved the use of novel and optimized components to achieve an overall reduction of ten percent in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Schaeffler Schaeffler Group Presents Study on Reduction in Fuel Consumption and in CO2 EmissionsThe Schaeffler Group has added another renowned award to its comprehensive collection with the “Outstanding Technology 2009 Award”. This important prize is awarded by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) based in the USA.
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) presents award to Schaeffler GroupSchaeffler Group Automotive is presenting a series of innovations for engine, transmission and chassis at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Alongside the technologies it presented at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt, such as the world’s first fully-variable hydraulic valve control system UniAir/MultiAir, the direct shift transmission with dry double clutch and the wheel bearing with face splines, Subaru’s new CVT Lineartronic will be the highlight of the Schaeffler Group booth.
Big in JapanDr. Jürgen M. Geißinger, Schaeffler Group President and CEO, was elected new president of the World Bearing Association (WBA) at the organization’s fourth annual meeting in Tokyo. WBA was established as an umbrella organization of the American Bearing Manufacturers’ Association (ABMA), the Japan Bearing Industrial Association (JBIA) and the European Bearing Manufacturers’ Association (FEBMA) in September 2006. It represents the leading global bearing companies with sales of approximately €20 billion, which is about 75 percent of the rolling bearing market worldwide.
WBA Elects New PresidentIt is like the fable of the tortoise and the hare. The Schaeffler Group will welcome record breaker Rainer Zietlow in nearly every country he will traverse during his two-part natural gas marathon tour. Rainer Zietlow – a globetrotter who has earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records – will visit the Schaeffler Group headquarters in Herzogenaurach to practically mark the beginning of his 40,000-kilometer journey stretching initially from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and then from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska. Four weeks after the start of the tour in Europe, Rainer Zietlow will visit the Korean and Japanese locations of the Schaeffler Group with his Volkswagen Caddy Maxi EcoFuel.
